Our first group fundraising event is planned to go ahead on the 11th September 2020 and will take place over 3 days. Jack’s Journey is a 3 day cycle event that will have participants travelling over 300 miles. On day one the cyclists will start at Plymouth Naval Memorial and cycle to Portland Naval Cemetery. Day 02 we will leave Portland and cycle to Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Day 03 and the final leg will be Portsmouth to Chatham Naval Memorial. A wreath will be laid at each Memorial in remembrance of the fallen.
So why Jack’s Journey? The term Jack is short for Jack Tar, originally used to refer to seamen of the Merchant or Royal Navy. As the majority of participants are serving Royal Navy or Veterans and our route takes us to the three Naval Memorials in England the event name was chosen as Jack’s Journey.
The fundraising part, as Covid has impacted many Veteran supporting organisations with their own fundraisers being cancelled we have chosen to support Care after Combat as well as our own Hidden Warriors CIC. In addition we will also split the amount raised and donate to Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG). The CCLG have been chosen for the good work they do but also because at Hidden Warriors CIC our Directors Mark and Terri’s little boy is fighting his own cancer battle.
With event planning we always try to involve serving Armed Forces and Veterans as it gives those people something to focus on and in past events organised for other charities it does improve mental health and gives a sense of belonging that some people do miss when they leave the Armed Forces. As we do not want to exclude, civilians that have no military background are always welcome to become part of the team.
Please support this event by sharing on social media and if you can donate please do, this can be done via the Donate Now button. You will be supporting three good organisations.
